Chapter 2 - FamCal Review

FamCal is an excellent app that makes it easier to communicate and organize activities for home, school, or even work. It offers a shared calendar along with grocery and to-do lists that can be used with family members, coworkers, or friends.

I personally love this app because of how easy it is to use. I rely on it to keep my family’s schedule organized and to make sure everyone at home knows what’s going on and what’s needed. I’ve shared it with my husband and two kids, which says a lot about how user-friendly it is. While adults may be more familiar with apps like Outlook’s calendar, this was my kids’ first time using a shared calendar and they’ve had no trouble using it at all, which speaks to how user friendly this app can be.

The design is clean and straightforward, making it simple to navigate and visually easy to understand. Everything is neatly organized into separate tabs that you can access from the bottom of the screen, which keeps even the busiest days seem easy to manage and not as overwhelming as they may be. As activities, to-dos or tasks are marked as completed, the app visually crosses it out, giving you a great visual of what is still pending and what is not.

The Home tab provides an overview of all upcoming appointments and pending tasks for the day, week or month. You can also add events or tasks from this tab or any other tab with that very convenient plus sing on the bottom right of the screen.

The Calendar tab displays all logged events for the month, but you can also switch to a weekly or daily view if you prefer. Adding a new event is easy, and you can color-code it by user or event type. There are also options to add custom alarms and any details you may need.

The Shopping tab gives you a shared grocery list where anyone in the family can instantly add items as they realize they’re needed, making it very helpful and preventing forgotten requests.

The Tasks tab allows you to create a to-do list or assign chores. Like calendar events, tasks can be customized with reminders, due dates, and detailed notes.

Finally, the Activities tab shows who has added or edited entries in the calendar and outlines exactly what changes were made.

In terms of functionality, FamCal does exactly what it promises, and even more. My family uses it every day, and we haven’t missed a single appointment or had any scheduling mix-ups since we started. My favorite feature is definitely the notifications. I’m not great at remembering dates and times, so the reminders have been a lifesaver. I also love the grocery list, since we all have access, anyone running errands can easily check the list and grab what’s needed on the spot.

All in all, FamCal is a fantastic app for families looking to stay organized and connected. It’s reliable, practical, and truly helps take the stress out of managing a busy household.
